The Thin Green Line - Music Festival 2009

On February 14th there will be large music festival in Australia. The Thin Green Line Festival... to raise funds and awareness for the families of park rangers who are killed on the front-line of conservation.
Much like the film premiere you participated in last year.

YOU, where ever you are in the world, can participate in this event by organising your own personal music event. Its EASY!.. you just need a musician friend or friends, and 2 people or more and you can host your own private or public event .

Music is a common language between us all, and can bond us all around the world on one day, and it brings us together in celebration of what we can achieve together. Importantly it also raises awareness about the issues surrounding protected areas and ?the need to address the social and environmental situations that lead to Park rangers being killed. In Virunga National Park In DRC 150+ rangers have been killed protecting Mountain gorillas in the last 10 years alone!

We need your support.... and it all it takes is to have a bit of a party with some friends.?

Once you register we will send you out an ?electronic information kit .

Register NOW!! Please!

You can register easily on http://www.thingreenline.org.au/event_registration

This registration form will soon be available in French and Spanish

For more information go to www.thingreenline.org.au or feel free to contact me Sean Willmore directly on sean@thingreenline.info

Thankyou for taking the time to read this... i hope you have the time to have music celebration on Feb 14th and be part of this world music event for a great cause

EUROPEAN JUNIOR RANGER CAMP COMES TO THE CAIRNGORMS

The Cairngorms National Park will play host to more than 40 countryside rangers from across Europe and some from closer to home this summer as the EUROPARC Junior Ranger Camp hits the area for the first time. The week-long celebration takes place from Saturday 26 July to Sunday 3 August at the Glen Tanar Estate in Aberdeenshire and is hosted by the Cairngorms National Park Authority and Scottish Countryside Rangers Association.

EUROPARC is the umbrella organisation of Europe's protected areas, uniting national parks, regional parks, nature parks and reserves in 38 countries, with the common aim of protecting Europe's unique variety of wildlife, habitats and landscapes.

The EUROPARC Junior Ranger Camp (for young rangers aged 14-18 years) presents several good media opportunities including adventurous outdoor activities, nature conservation work and cultural events. A full programme of events is attached to this email. Youngsters from Kingussie, Aboyne, Alford, Brechin and Inverness are among those taking part.

The International Rangers Federation

SCRA was a founder member of the (International Rangers Federation) IRF on the Banks of Loch Lomond in 1992. Since then, SCRA has played a significant role in the continued development of the IRF into the organisation it is today. The culmination of this work was at the last IRF Congress which was hosted by SCRA at Stirling in 2006. The next Congress is to be held in Bolivia in 2009. If you would like to help raise funds towards helping Rangers from less affluent countries attend the next Congress, SCRA is running the '£ per Mile Campaign' to raise £6,144 over the next 18 months.

The IRF aims are to provide a forum for rangers from around the world to share their successes and failures in protecting the world's heritage and to promote information and technology transfer from countries in which protected area management enjoys broad public and government support to countries in which protected area management is less well supported.

The IRF has a number of newsletters that are produced on a regular basis;

Guardaparque - a regular publication of the IRF

The Thin Green Line - a publication of the IRF released throughout the year

The IRF also has a website with details of all its activities and links to member associations around the world.

European Ranger Conference

The second European Ranger Conference (PDF, 65kb) will be organised later this year in Budapest. There are details available on the website. Two post conference tours have been arranged, visiting the Northern Mountain Range and Lake Balaton.

All bookings to this event should be made via Tony Wilson and as soon as possible.

World Ranger Day (July 31st)

The IRF promotes World Ranger Day on July 31st each year (the first being in 2007). This day has been ratified and is supported by the International Conservation Body the IUCN, and is celebrated on the same day around the World. The 2007 World Ranger Day celebrated the release and worldwide premier of the film, the Thin Green Line, a documentary made by Australian Ranger Sean Wilmore, over 5 years, depicting the lives, work and challenges faced by Rangers on the frontline of Conservation around the World. All the proceeds of this film have been put into the Thin Green Line Foundation (previously the IRF Dependants Fund) to support the families and loved ones of Rangers who have been killed or incapacitated through their work.

Information about the film, The Thin Green Line, the work of the Foundation, and to purchase copies of this film to support the work of the Foundation, can be found at the Thin Green Line website.
